Renew Your CFI Certificate

There are several ways to qualify for renewal, including:

Completion of a Flight Instructor Refresher Course (FIRC)
Showing evidence of actively instructing (e.g., 5 student sign-offs with checkride results)
Serving as a Check Instructor or Check Airman under Parts 121 or 135

If you'd like me to process your renewal, please email me the following to batnip@gmail.com :

A copy of your government-issued photo ID
A copy of your CFI Certificate (front and back)
Your pilot certificate number
Your FTN (FAA Tracking Number)
Proof of eligibility (one of the following):
- A copy of your FIRC graduation certificate
- A list of the last 5 students AND 80% pass rate you've endorsed for checkrides, including dates and whether they passed on the first attempt
- Documentation of current employment as a 121/135 Check Instructor or Check Pilot
A completed IACRA renewal application (please leave flight times blank)
Date/Times that works for a quick 10 minute Zoom Call

Removing the SOE Limitation from Your Pilot Certificate

If your pilot certificate includes an SOE (Statement of Operational Experience) limitation, you’ll need to meet FAA requirements to have it removed before acting as PIC in the actual aircraft. As an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner, I am authorized to remove this limitation remotely via Zoom.

The SOE (Statement of Operational Experience) limitation is typically issued after a simulator-based checkride for a type rating or upgrade under Part 121/135. It restricts you from acting as Pilot in Command until you complete a certain amount of operational experience in the actual aircraft.

How to Remove the SOE Limitation – 3 Simple Steps

✅ 1. Complete the Required Flight Experience

Perform the required number of flight hours in the aircraft (25 hours).
This must be done under the supervision of a qualified PIC or Check Airman.

✅ 2. Send the Required Documents

Email the following to batnip@gmail.com:

A copy of your government-issued photo ID
A copy of your pilot certificate (front and back)
Your IACRA FTN (FAA Tracking Number)
Documentation from the supervising PIC or Check Airman verifying your SOE completion and logs of each flight and the pilot in command who observed the flight attests in writing to each flight
IACRA Application - Submitted (please leave all flight times blank on the application other than at least the 25 hours PIC time in type in Section II. )

✅ 3. Schedule a Zoom Appointment

Include a few preferred dates and times in your email. Once I receive your documents, I’ll confirm a Zoom meeting time (please allow at least 24 hours' notice).

During the Zoom appointment, I’ll verify your documents and submit your SOE removal application in IACRA. After approval, you’ll receive a new Temporary Airman Certificate without the limitation.

If you're looking to obtain an SIC type rating on your pilot certificate, I can help process it quickly and efficiently. As an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner, I am authorized to issue Second-in-Command (SIC) Type Ratings without a practical test, provided you meet the applicable requirements under 14 CFR § 61.55.

✅ Who Can Receive an SIC Type Rating?

You are eligible for an SIC type rating if you:

Have completed the requirements under 61.55
No checkride is required — this is a paperwork-based process.

📄 What You Need to Send Me

Copy of Photo ID (government-issued)
Copy of Pilot Certificate (front and back)
FTN (FAA Tracking Number)
Proof of Completion of SIC Training, which may include:
- Company training records
- The qualified management official must hold the position of Chief Pilot, Director of Training, Director of Operations, or another comparable management position within the organization that provided the training and must be in a position to verify the applicant's training records and that the training was given.
- SIC Endorsement as required by 61.55(e)(1&2)
Completed IACRA Application
- Select “Amendment” > “Add Type Rating”
- Choose “SIC Privileges Only”
- Leave flight times blank
- Use the appropriate aircraft type designator (e.g., B737, CL65)
